We took a trip round the SafeCo field - which is the local baseball stadium, home to the Mariner's, our local and favourite baseball team. The Mariner's web site is here. The SafeCo field is a superb piece of engineering with a sliding roof to allow the stadium to be undercover in the rain, and out in the open in the sun... This is Shirley and Ann standing on the edge of the field itself - behind them is the press box with "Welcome to SafeCo field" on it. Made from a thousand transparent baseball bats, this is one of the pieces of baseball related artwork that is in the stadium. There are flashing lights representing photographers flashbulbs going off, and the bats are arranged such that there are 500 left handed and 500 right handed swings "in progress" frozen in time. This piece of art hangs over the South West entrance to the field. Shirley in the dugout - this is the Mariner's dugout, where the team hang out while the game is on, waiting for their turn... While Shirley was on Bainbridge Island, we bumped into Terri and Bob - two friends of ours, and we went round to their house for breakfast and took a walk along the sea shore afterwards. At this point in time they were living right on the waterfront in the tiniest cabin in the world... They took this photo of us Ivar's clams is one of the oldest restaurants in Seattle, right on the waterfront next to the ferry terminal. This sculpture is of the original Ivar feeding the seagulls.
