Holiday in Mexico...!

You are in: TimeLine -> 2001 -> Mexico

We needed a break. While Nick was here we finally got to book the holiday - 2:00pm on Saturday we went to the travel agents and said "We want to go somewhere hot on Monday. Sort it." and she did. 90 minutes later we were booked on a flight to Mazatlan on Monday morning to spend the week at the Hotel El Cid.

El Cid? Er, yes. The El Cid Mega Resort. Well, it made us laugh. Conveniently the hotel was nearly empty as it was off season. The weather was great as well! This is Mazatlan airport. As you can see, its a major international hub with as many as one flight a day...

Quick bus transfer later and we were at the El Cid. Actually it was pretty good, they upgraded the room for us for free and so we got a fantastic sea view. In the lobby we were caught by someone selling time-share, but we resisted, despite the tempting offer of a free boat ride for 90 minutes presentation. Seems like a good deal - read on... Anyway - here's the view from the hotel. Paradise-like really. Beautiful sand and sea... Plenty of people trying to sell you junk jewelry and timeshare and boat rides and parascending and timeshare and drugs and timeshare.

Word from the wise - if you walk along the edge of the sea, then they leave alone cos they'll get their merchandise wet...

Aahh... The beach hawkers... So many of them, selling so much rubbish. But a swift "No gracias" coupled with the right dismissive hand action and they bugger off pretty fast. Taken from our balcony, this photo shows some poor saps who have been drawn in...
Ann in a hat. We bought Ann's Mum a sombrero - cost us a few dozen pesos and then about 30 bucks to send to the UK. Ho hum. It was a sod to get back on the plane as well, but does look rather smart on the wall in Shirley's house so worth the hassle.

So - the photo's are divided up a bit to try and reduce the page load time for you all on a dial up link:

Good luck finding your way around - we recommend Mexico for a pleasant, cheap and relaxing time.
